Accountant - Mid & East Antrim Borough Council | Ballymena
Join Mid & East Antrim Borough Council as an Accountant in Ballymena and play a key
role in supporting the accounting managers in maintaining
effective financial management, compliance and team
development within the Council.
About the role:
- £25.00 per hour
- Location: Ballymena
- Monday to Friday (may be
required to work outside of normal
office hours as required).
- 37 hours a week
- 14 month contract
- Closing date: Thursday 3rd September 2026 at 12pm
What you'll be doing in this role:
- Financial Management: Prepare management accounts, financial reports, reconciliations, and month-end journals, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Budget Oversight: Support budget setting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial planning across the organisation.
- Capital Accounting: Manage fixed assets, capital expenditure, depreciation, and disposals in line with accounting standards.
- Treasury Management: Monitor cash flow, forecasting, banking activities, reconciliations, and fund transfers
- Accounts Receivable & Payable: Oversee invoicing, payment processing, reconciliations, and outstanding balances
- Grant Management: Ensure grant income is accurately recorded and reconciled, supporting compliance, expenditure monitoring, and reporting requirements.
What you'll need for this role:
- Hold a recognised accountancy
qualification (CCAB or equivalent)
and be a full member of one of
the professional accountancy
bodies (CCAB or equivalent).
- 2 years’ experience in financial
management, accounting or
auditing with specialised
expertise in capital accounting,
treasury management,
management accounting or
financial accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting
principles, regulations and
standards.
- Proficiency in financial software
and ERP systems and strong
proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- A full current driving licence valid in
the UK and access to a vehicle OR
have access to a form of transport
that enables you to carry out the
duties of the post. (Applies only to applicants who
