Democratic Services Officer - Craigavon - Permanent 
 
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Democratic Services Officer to join a busy public sector team based in Craigavon. This role plays a key part in supporting Council meetings and Elected Members by providing high-level administrative, governance, and organisational support.
 
About the role:
  • £16.89 per hour
  • Monday to Friday (flexible working available)
  • 37 hours a week
  • Location: Craigavon Civic & Conference Centre (with travel across the Borough as required)
  • Temporary, 3 months (with possible extension)
What you'll be doing in this role:
  • Provide efficient and accurate administrative support to Council, Committees, and Working Groups.
  • Prepare and issue meeting agendas, reports, and minutes in line with governance procedures.
  • Attend meetings, take detailed records of proceedings, and follow up on decisions and actions.
  • Offer guidance on Standing Orders, governance protocols, and meeting procedures.
  • Support Elected Members with correspondence, research requests, and IT assistance.
  • Manage and maintain committee management systems, video conferencing tools, and confidential records.
  • Process Member expense claims, purchase orders, and invoices accurately and in line with policy.
  • Liaise with government departments, statutory agencies, and external stakeholders.
What you'll need for this role:
  • Five GCSE’s (Grades A – C) or equivalent/comparable including Mathematics and English Language. **Applicants must list all subjects, grades and level attained
  • Two years’ experience working in a busy office environment to include providing a range of administrative support, including use of Microsoft Word. • One year’s experience of minute taking and servicing meetings of formal Committees OR senior executives OR board meetings involving up to 25 attendees (including production of minutes)
  • OCR Level 2 Award in Text Processing (Business Professional) (Text Production and Word Processing) or OCR/RSA Stage II Typing/Word Processing (Parts 1 & 2) or equivalent.
  • Strong administrative and communication skills.
