Purpose of the Role
The Design Office Supervisor is responsible for providing technical guidance and operational leadership to an established BIM team, overseeing the detailing of bespoke structural frames and high-specification architectural precast concrete solutions. The role focuses on the development of fully coordinated 3D models, fabrication drawings, and schedules, ensuring structural integrity, visual finish requirements, buildability, and compliance with relevant Eurocodes and project specifications.
About the Role
This position involves leading day-to-day design office operations, mentoring BIM Technicians, and ensuring all precast concrete project deliverables are produced to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating design activities, supporting manufacturing requirements, and driving continuous improvement within the design department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of BIM Technicians, managing workloads and encouraging professional development.
- Review and approve precast concrete models, fabrication drawings, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Plan and coordinate design office activities to meet project milestones, production schedules, and delivery deadlines.
- Act as the primary liaison between the design office, manufacturing teams, site personnel, and external stakeholders to resolve technical queries and design challenges.
- Maintain and continuously improve BIM standards, drafting procedures, and design workflows.
- Ensure all design outputs comply with relevant Eurocodes, industry standards, and project specifications.
- Monitor design quality and implement best practices to promote efficiency, consistency, and innovation.
- Support the successful delivery of structural and architectural precast concrete projects from concept through to manufacture and installation.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and the ongoing development of design office capabilities.
Essential Criteria
- Extensive experience in the design, detailing, and technical requirements of precast concrete products.
- Proven experience supervising, mentoring, or leading a team of BIM Technicians within a design office environment.
- Strong understanding of structural drafting principles, BIM processes, and industry best practices.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities, with experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
