About the Opportunity
A leading food manufacturing company is seeking an Environmental Officer to support the ongoing development and management of its environmental and sustainability objectives.
This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional with experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally food production, who is passionate about compliance, sustainability and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the site's Environmental Management System, ensuring legislative compliance and driving initiatives that reduce environmental impact across the business.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the site's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
- Coordinate internal and external ISO 14001 audits, ensuring ongoing compliance and certification
- Monitor compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences and regulatory requirements
- Maintain and update environmental policies, procedures and supporting documentation
- Monitor environmental performance, including waste management, water usage, energy consumption, emissions and recycling activities
- Collect, analyse and report environmental performance data to senior management
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve environmental performance and reduce environmental impact
- Support the delivery of sustainability projects and environmental objectives
- Coordinate environmental improvement initiatives across production and operational departments
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors and waste management providers
- Investigate environmental incidents and ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented
Criteria:
- Previous experience within an Environmental Officer, Environmental Coordinator or similar position
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment, ideally food manufacturing
- Good understanding of UK environmental legislation and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of environmental permitting, waste management, water treatment and energy management
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage documentation and maintain accurate records
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports
Desirable Criteria
- Qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or a related discipline
- ISO 14001 Internal Auditor qualification or experience coordinating ISO 14001 audits
- Experience delivering environmental improvement or sustainability projects
- Knowledge of food manufacturing standards and processes
