Demonstrator/Baker with Tour Guiding duties - Mid & East Antrim Borough Council - Ballymena
Join Mid and East Antrim Borough Council for this exciting opportunity to work within a historical tourist destination, cooking baked goods using traditional methods whilst demonstrating these techniques to the public.
About the role:
- £14.13 per hour
- Location: Ballymena
- 25 hours per week including weekends
- Monday to Friday
- 37 hours a week - to include public holidays, evenings and weekends
- 3 months with a possible extension

What you'll be doing in this role:
- Provide a first class level of customer experience to all visitors and meeting each individual’s needs.
- To prepare, set and light the open fire.
- Responsible for ordering ingredients for baking demonstrations through approved procurement procedure.
- To carry out period costumed, live baking demonstrations over the open fire in the Cottage. This will include traditional baking of soda bread and pancakes.
- Be responsible for costume maintenance such as making sure that costumes are properly stored, cleaned and restored.
- To provide a series of tours at the homestead, offer information and knowledge to visitors about country and farming life and the history of the cottage.
- Washing and cleaning of equipment and general cleaning and tidying of cottage and interpretative centre.
- To deliver historic craft sessions as required.
- Responsible for opening and closing of cottage and centre.
- Ensure the premises are left safe and secure.
What you'll need for this role:
- Applicants must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade A-C including English and Maths or equivalent in English and Maths
- Applicants must have traditional baking skills
- Applicants must have knowledge of the history of farming and country life
- Applicants must have experience working within the tourism industry
- Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have two years (4 years if criterion 1 is not met) experience to include:
- Tour Guiding
- Working with the general public
- Applicants must have a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate of equivalent
- Knowledge of IT systems to include Microsoft Office Suite
- A full current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, or access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post (this applies only to applicants who have a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act).
