The Marketing Communications and PR Officer will contribute to the delivery of a full range of proactive marketing and communication functions across the Council to support the delivery of the Council’s Corporate objectives
Benefits:
- Rate of pay: £20.66 per hour
- Hours of Work: 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.
- Duration of post:3 months with a possible extension
- Location: Mossley Mill but may be required at other locations within the Borough

You will support the communications team in delivering the digital marketing priorities. Duties will include:
- Support internal business partners by preparing annual marketing, media and communication plans set against agreed budgets, providing value for money. to support departmental aims and objectives
- Develop, implement, manage and report on marketing campaigns to support the delivery of the annual marketing plan. This includes development of key messaging and content (including writing copy, co-ordinating photography, video and graphics), online and offline advertising and media coverage.
- Maintain and update the Council website and provide support to the digital communications officers for social media messaging on an ongoing basis for responsible services areas.
- Evaluate campaign effectiveness using a variety of metrics and prepare reports with appropriate recommendations.
- Be pro-active and innovative in identifying, organising and maximising PR opportunities in support of Council services or initiatives.
- Manage media relations, acting as point of contact in handling external media enquiries, requests for PR assistance from internal customers and promoting positive news about the Council.
- Brief Council Officers and Elected Members on media issues to prepare for any media contact, including interviews. 9 Researching and drafting press releases/statements in line with agreed key messages and Council objectives.
- Monitor on a daily basis local and regional media coverage and highlight any issues of interest to the Senior Management Team
Criteria:
- A degree in a relevant discipline e.g. Marketing, Communications, Business Studies or an equivalent level 6 qualification, as per the UK qualifications framework in a relevant discipline.
*Consideration will be given to applicants who do not hold a Degree in a relevant discipline but who can demonstrate at least 3 years’ relevant experience.
- Possess at least 2 years’ experience in a wide range of Marketing and PR activities to include experience of the following:
Devising and implementing communication campaigns (both online and offline)
Preparing and producing publications
1 years’ experience in public relations.
- Good planning and project management skills.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.
Displays a positive attitude including a solution based, flexible and enthusiastic approach.
Maintain a high standard of quality and accuracy.
Creative and innovative to deliver service improvements
- To be available from time to time to carry out duties outside of normal working pattern and in addition to basic contracted hours. Such additional hours will be remunerated in line with Council’s approved policies at that time.
- Full current driving licence or if disability prevents driving, access to a suitable form of transport to enable the duties of the post to be carried out in full
