Ward Clerk - Antrim Area Hospital
Join the Northern Health and Social Care Trust in Whiteabbey as a Ward Clerk and play a key part in support daily ward operations, manage patient records using the EPIC/Encompass system (full training provided), and help ensure effective communication across departments.
As this is a ward-based role, occasional exposure to odours and clinical specimens may occur. If you’re a motivated team player with strong admin skills, we’d love to hear from you.
About the role:
- £12.75 per hour
- Whiteabbey Hospital
- 37.5 hrs per week 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday
- Duration: Temporary until 31/07/2026

What you'll be doing in this role:
- Print theatre lists and wristbands arrive patients, update demographic details.
- Co-ordinate with nursing team to ensure lists run efficiently.
- Act as first point of contact on ward/unit bases for all disciplines and visitors to the department
- Answering telephone queries ensuring that messages are recorded correctly and passed on to the appropriate person.
- Liaise with all relevant professions and departments with regards patients’ information
- Frequent communication with distressed patients and relatives.
- Run a daily discharge report, complete relevant admin duties and update relevant teams as required.
- Booking of ambulance transport for patients as required on discharge or transfer.
What you'll need for this role:
- 4 GCSEs to include English and Maths (Grade A*-C – please list grades) or equivalent AND 1 years’ clerical experience in an office environment to include the use of computerised systems e.g Microsoft Office.
- OR 3 year's clerical experience in an office environment to include the use of computerise systems e.g Microsoft Office.
- Ability to exercise tact and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to work within a team
- Flexible in working hours if required.
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of the role of a ward/unit clerk
- Knowledge of hospital computerised systems
