Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer - Ballymena

We’re working with a leading manufacturing company in Ballymena that’s looking for a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer to join their team. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of keeping production running smoothly — solving problems, supporting continuous improvement, and helping make sure everything on the shop floor is safe, efficient, and performing at its best.

You will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of company strategy, champion best practice in the workplace and act as a driver for change and continuous improvement.  You will have the opportunity to influence change and drive business agenda, particularly those initiatives affecting you and your line, and to ensure that communication becomes a 2-way channel focussed on honesty, integrity, and transparency.  

The main function of this role is to ensure 100% CTP is achieved by working in conjunction with Production Shift Managers and maintaining all plant machinery including breakdowns / reactive and planned maintenance on shift.

What you'll be doing:
  • Actively support and assist with all operational functions including, breakdowns, machine cover, problem solving, data collection and where appropriate routine machine running during absences/holidays, particularly when in sole charge of shifts.
  • Contribute towards achieving and maintaining a positive team and working environment, working in a cooperative manner and providing support to work colleagues on your line as needed and adapting to change in a positive and professional manner.
  • Communicate in a respectful, professional and timely manner with managers, work colleagues and wider team to maintain continuity of production and ensure a safe, efficient working environment for all.
  • Co-ordinate set ups and equipment and complete changeovers as directed by shift lead in a timely and accurate manner and vigilantly monitor machine operation for signs of impending problems, addressing any problems promptly to minimise downtime.
  • Liaise with shift lead / senior management team when critical issues regarding product non-conformance, safety and/or production issues arise.
  • Perform duties to the highest standard adhering to standard operating procedures in a safe and efficient manner to maximise production and achieve targets. Be fully competent in filler tech op duties i.e., CIP’s / changeovers / charge-ups
  • Promote accident prevention on your line by adhering to all safety guidelines and standards, ensuring that the correct PPE is always being worn and encourage active participation in all required training.
  • Report any safety accidents/incidents to H & S Officer / QSE Manager and identify, communicate and eliminate potential hazards.
  • Actively investigate faults ensuring root cause is determined and follow up on actions to sustain improvements.
  • In the event of routine/standard breakdowns across the production lines. In the case of non-standard faults escalate to shift lead.
  • Using your operational knowledge of site equipment, recommend potential operational improvements and make controlled adjustments to equipment to optimise the running efficiency.
  • Responsible for ensuring documentation associated with operations e.g., breakdown sheets / PM schedules and ensure that all monitoring systems required by the Company are completed accurately to ensure that filling conditions are checked in accordance with laid down quality procedures.
What you'll need for this role:
  • 3 years manufacturing machinery experience
  • Supervisory experience / man management skills
  • Level 3 or above in engineering or a similar trade
  • Experienced in training delivery
  • Excellent communication skills with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong communicator, with the ability to make decisions and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Take ownership and accountability
