About the role:
- Assist in the management and delivery of operational Corporate Health and Safety objectives, and implement programmes for promoting health, safety and wellbeing.
- Responsible to the Health and Safety Manager for providing advice and guidance to line management and staff in respect of compliance with health and safety legislation, policy and procedures and safe working practices.
- Participate in a planned programme of regular inspections and audit of Council premises to advise on all general health and safety matters, in liaison with other internal or external inspecting or regulatory bodies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide advice, guidance and support to Council Officers in relation to compliance with health and safety legislation, policies and procedures as they apply to the employees, functions and buildings of the council and others affected by Council undertakings.
- Co-ordinate and respond to health and safety enquiries and requests for assistance from line managers and members of staff.

Participate as required in departmental/section health and safety meetings to provide support and guidance on relevant health, safety and wellbeing activity and requirements.

Conduct workplace safety inspections and audits, produce reports and ensure that recommendations made are actioned.

Prepare and deliver required health and safety training, including participation and support in the delivery of Employee Induction as required.

Carry out accident or incident investigations, and ensuring the development and implementation of appropriate action plans to prevent reoccurrence.

Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of best practice and developments in health and safety legislation, procedures and systems of work.
Qualifications & Essential Criteria:
- Applicants must have a degree qualification and possess a Nebosh certificate.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, a minimum of one years' experience working within a H&S advisor role delivering in the following areas:
- Proven track record of working within a large multi-disciplinary organisation
- Proven track record of provision of providing practical H&S advice and guidance with successful outcomes.
- Experience of effectively working with a range of internal or external stakeholders including Line Managers and shop stewards.
- Developing and implementing H&S policies and procedures that are aligned to corporate priorities and in accordance with legislation and best practice
- A full current driving licence valid in the UK and access to a car or have access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post
