Senior Equality Advisor - Business Services Organisation - Belfast
 
Join the Business Services Organisation in Belfast as a Senior Equality Officer and play a key part in providing expert advice, guidance and direction to a range of clients with regards to equality monitoring.
 
About the role:
  • £19.78 per hour
  • Location: James House, Belfast
  • Monday to Friday
  • 37.5 hours a week
  • Temporary role up until 31st March 2027

What you'll be doing in this role:
  • Facilitating development and monitoring of annual screening/equality impact assessment (EQIA) programme by client organisations and by large-scale programmes of work within client organisations.
  • Advising on strategic approaches to screenings and EQIAs.
  • Lead on and provide secretariat for equality fora chaired by the BSO Equality Unit, including coordinating agendas and papers, drafting papers and delivering briefings, minuting, and maintaining contact lists.
  • Participate in and provide expert advice and guidance to client-chaired internal equality fora on request.
  • Lead on the preparation of statutory Annual Progress Reports for clients.
  • Facilitate and support clients in the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of Equality and Disability Action Plans, including project planning, management and the drafting of statutory reports.
  • Engage with staff, voluntary sector experts and other internal and external stakeholders as required and via a range of methods.
What you'll need for this role:
  • A relevant university degree PLUS at least two years’ experience working in a role at a minimum level of Band 5 or equivalent/above undertaking each of the following:

  • Collecting, analysing and interpreting social sciences/policy data (quantitative and qualitative) from a range of sources.

  • Providing expert advice on policy- and decision-making and review.

  • Paper and report writing.

  • OR,
  • At least five years’ experience working in a role undertaking each of the bullet points above, two of which must be at a minimum level of Band 5 or equivalent/above. 
  • Working effectively with MS365 suite (to include Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of equality legislation, including Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 and the Disability Duties (2007), and the Human Rights Act 1998
