What you'll be doing in this role:
  • To support the implementation of the Council’s ‘Our Historical Borough’ programme, a cultural and community development initiative of the PEACEPLUS, Local Community Action Plan.
  • Assist the team working on ‘Our Historical Borough’ with the development and implementation of a series of Trails under a set list of subject areas as outlined in the Local Community Action Plan, including identifying the key sites for inclusion in these Trails.
  • Plan and undertake the necessary research to develop a full understanding of the sites included in each trail and a suite of information, images, references, etc to form a potential online archive to provide additional narrative for each site.
  • Engage with community and heritage groups and Elected Representatives across the Borough to uncover relevant heritage stories and interesting facts as part of the trail development process.
  • To conduct and compile original research including significant historical and cultural buildings, landscapes, communities and areas of specific interest in the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough.
  • Create and develop a verified database of historical and cultural research covering the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough.
What you'll need for this role:
  • Applicants must have a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline e.g. History, Heritage, Culture, Archaeology.
  • Minimum of 2-years recent experience in conducting historical/ heritage related research.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Self-starter, with the proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full current driving licence or, if a disability prevents driving, access to a suitable form of transport to enable the duties of the post to be carried out in full.
  • Available to work outside normal working hours as and when required.
